Overview Of The Work Done Thus Far
The DBSP has been operative in Kenya since March, 2007. Thus far DBSP programmes have been run
in the Nairobi and Rift Valley Provinces. Plans are already in place to start running programmes in other places
around Kenya.
To the end of December, 2009 DBSP Kenya has accomplished the following:
- Formed a DBSP Board (oversight team) and a Management team.
- Run 30 DBSP programmes. - 4 programmes in 2007, 7 in 2008 and 19 in 2009.
- Trained 600 people to start up and run their own business.
- Trained up 19 Kenyan Trainer / Facilitators.
- Set up all the administration systems, developed a policy manual and written an information brochure.
- Publish a quarterly newsletter, revolving around current DBSP training, events and issues in Kenya.
- Established relationships with key stakeholders, such as Empowering Lives International (ELI), a
Christian group working with the poor in Western Kenya.
- Raised the funding to run all DBSP programmes, as well as to run DBSP Kenya and train up & assess trainers.
- Developed a strong funding base, such as with USAID, ELI, The Mission Society, 410 Bridge International,
Compassion International in Kenya to name a few.
